I think that this might be the most extensive travel itinerary yet!
May 31st
3:30am – Load bags onto shuttles at hostel in Antigua, Guatemala
5am – Arrived at Guatemala City airport, get tickets and check in
6:35 am – Load 1st plane to San Salvador, El Salvador (don’t ask why, yes I’m aware that I was just there last week and that we had to take a bus to Guatemala, and it’s because San Salvador is the hub of international flights in and out of Central America)
7:45 am – Arrive in San Salvador
8:20 am – Load 2nd plane to Los Angelos, California
2 pm (LA time) – Land at LAX
– go through customs
– get excited because toliet paper can be flushed in the toliet not just thrown in the garbage
– All the faucets have warm running water
– You can drink from the drinking fountains!! They are cold and clean π
– Mail things at the post office & eat sushi
– Get climbing shoes, sunglasses and a card from my parents!!!
– Don’t feel like paying for a cab? Just hop on the HERTZ shuttle, they have no way of knowing if you really were a customer or not
– Get super frustrated that the internet you paid to use at 4pm in the domestic terminal doesn’t work in the international terminal; in fact there isn’t really any internet that works in the international terminal – of course!
– Realize, only after you’ve gone thru security, that there are no ATM’s or restaurants in the terminal where we are
– Conclusion, LAX is my least favorite airport at the moment!!
10:30 pm – Load the 3rd plane to Guangzhou, China
– most clostrophobic plane ride EVER
– the food was pretty groovy π
June 1st – skipped – where did it go?? Thank you International Date Line – this means that somewhere else down the race we will relive the same day twice…..weird….
June 2nd
5:30 am (4:30 pm June 1st CST) – Arrive in Guangzhou, China
– we are the first flight in for the day
– nothing is open in the airport
– we can flush toilet paper!!
– we have no internet, again
8:10am – Load the 4th plane for Bangkok, Thailand (almost there….)
– it’s more spacious than the larger plane that we were just on
– and nothing is really in English π
10:30am – Land in Bangkok Thailand (Bangkok time which is an hour difference from China time) which is like 11:30 China time lol
– Head through customs
– Wait for our contacts to pick us up
– leave around noon to head to the WYAM center for a couple days before we get to our ministry sites!
What a ridiculous few days!! Thank goodness for being able to sleep on plane rides π
