August 30th:
We are supposed to leave our hostel at 8pm to head to the bus
station. However, the vans we rented did not show up at 8pm, so after Jeff
coordinated with a handful of taxis we left the hostel at 8:45pm (relatively on
time for Africa). The busses were supposed to begin the journey to Mwanza CIty,
Tanzania at 9:30pm BUT we left at around 10pm. No big deal, just running more
on African time. The bus was not particularly comfortable, tight spacing with
the seats. Excited for what Tanzania holds we begin the traveling journey. I
think every 2 hours the bus stopped for some reason or another. I’m not entirely
sure why these stops happened as I was not really awake. We thought we would
reach the border at midnight, however, we did not reach the border until
8:30am! Thankfully, it was a quick border stop, no problems and we were back on
the road around 9am. And we arrived safely in Mwanza City, Tanzania at about
noon! This month we are working with another team (Clara, Cadence, Char, Lacey,
Carrie, Kellen and Chris)! It will be nice to have another team around. Our
contact had lunch ready and we had a great first afternoon relaxing!
