Over the last week there have been little odds and ends of things that I have wanted to share but they don’t necessarily fit together; nor are they things that could fill an entire blog persay (though I know a blog has no length requirement).
The first is a totally awesome story about a young girl (about 10 or so) that we prayed for in one of the communities we went to. She was paralyzed, blind, and hasn’t spoken in years; she can’t even opened her eyes. While we were praying for her, she began to open her eyes and then shut them. Nothing happened that day and we continued praying for her. A few days later our translator told us that he had been back to the community where she was from and that this young girl has stood up, twice, on her own 🙂 We firmly believe that a healing process has occurred.
Now onto the more random tidbits-
-
I went 5 days without showering
-
Though some houses have running water, most need a bucket to flush the toilet
-
And most people take bucket showers – yup, you fill up a bucket of water and bring it in the bath tub and that’s all the water you get
-
It still intrigues me that the system can’t handle toilet paper but it can handle some massive poops
-
Speaking of, I have been pooping about every other day
-
The first night in Azua, I was nearly asleep when I felt something small crawling up my arm. I shot straight up in bed, shooed it away and then it was in Katie’s hair. Needless to say I could not sleep for the rest of the night. We think it was a lizard though it could have been a mouse.
-
Speaking of sleeping, at our first host family’s house, all 4 girls shared, what I believe to be, a king sized bed….ya no room for movement
-
One of my teammates saw mountains for the first time this last week and he touched a goat for the first time.
-
I learned that being in a community for one week is long enough to make an impact on people, one of the teenage girls cried when I left, she told me I was her best friend (I can’t wait to post a picture of her).
-
Our community has church every night of the week, except for Monday I think; twice on sundays
-
The food is AMAZING!!!
PS I seem to be having difficulty posting pictures on this blog, it might be better to check my facebook or I will try to post links after I load more pictures up 🙂
