The Project is a facility that was built to provide the men, especially, a place to work other than the pesticide infested sugar cane fields. At the project there is a section of space where men do welding, make bricks and other types of construction work which they then can sell to people in town.
While groups are staying at the project the kitchen is used to prepare meals but in between groups it is intended to make pasteries to sell in town
                                                    .
There is also a second hand store that is on the property grounds.
In addition there is the watch tower (on the left). I think my favorite building is the free clinic- a place where the people of Bethel can receive medical attention without having to worry about how to pay for the services.(right)

One of our contacts here who kind of started The Project also teaches the people who work here about business; how to asses costs, make the most of your money and the like. I think it’s really awesome that he doesn’t just want to provide a place for them to work but also a place for them to learn and build life skills. In doing so he is providing these men the opportunity and knowledge to start their own business and make sure they are not being ripped off when they are doing business with others.

Ron, our contact, is still in the process of working out the details and is working with an organization called Vision Nicaragua. You can visit their website at http://visionnicaragua.org

With that I leave you with some more pictures of the facilities:

For the most part we had running water, except for the three days that we ranout – that made showering and doing laundry rather difficult. It was nice to have so much space, we were the only group on the property!!
