So we arrived at our new contacts house on Sunday the 16th. Though it was difficult to leave the first community, I am looking forward to doing something different; but man I have soo much respect for Pastor Luis and all that he does. Our new host family only lives 20 minutes (tops) from our previous house; however, those 20 minutes place you in a different world. Now we are in more of a city setting.
Anyways, that is not the point. We sit down with Raul (the pastor we are working with) and he begins giving us an orientation of things that we can expect to be doing over the next two weeks while we are here:
-
Sports Ministries – playing sports with the kids
-
Helping youth with guitar skills
-
Working in their school
-
Helping with construction
-
Teaching Sunday school
-
Possibly planning a church service
Can I just say that I nearly peed my pants at the thought of being able to help out with just one of these ministries. I mean FOR REAL!! Let me explain the part that almost literally made my stomach dance. Guess what type of school it is?? go ahead…….waiting……did you guess yet?? You better have, but even if you didn’t I will tell you anyways 🙂 It’s a special school. A school for youth (K-high school) who have been kicked out of their school – bad grades, learning disabilities, behavioral disorders, and kids who just struggle with the idea of school!! Oh my gosh, oh my gosh, oh my gosh – I’m not going to want to leave!!!!! You mean I get an opportunity to work with youth who are just like the youth I used to work with?? really?? And I get to do some manual labor: lay bricks, paint, and stuff like that? The possibility of planning a service – I haven’t done that in ages!! There isn’t a single thing on this list of possible ministries that doesn’t make me want to just jump up and sing for joy. In fact, I haven’t been able to get joyous songs out of my head since.
