In 2007 Inca Link ministries and Compassion International began construction on a building for the children in Por Venir, a community in Trujillo. The purpose of the building was to provide a place for children to go when their parents were working in the garbage dump and to keep the children from working in the garbage dump. As you head to the Day Care here is some of what you walk thru:

In 2008 the first story was complete and they had children sponsored (thru Compassion International I believe). It costs $32 to sponsor a child for one month. Here is one of the rooms:

The day care is open for three days a week (Thursday, Friday and Saturday) from noon until 4pm. While the children are at the day care they receive a healthy meal for lunch, learn about personal hygiene, increase their education, do a craft and are loved on by the amazing workers of the day care center.
Currently they have 90 children who are sponsored and who attend the day care center ranging in age from 2-14. While they are fully functioning now, they are still working on building the second story of the Day Care Center. The second story is going to have a room for the older youth to allow them to have their own space. Also they will build a vocational room to teach the children how to make shoes and other trades to help them earn money. Another interesting logistical fact is that they are only able to receive water for one hour every other day. Praise God for an organization called Wine to Water who has provided the day care center with strong pumps to increase the amount of water they receive during their allotted hour.

They are such beautiful children who come from very different family environments. Some of the children have families who are physically abusive, some are verbally abusive, some are neglectful and some are very loving but so poor that they can’t provide food for their children. Regardless of what type of family they come from it is evident that these children have a lack of love and discipline in their lives. But my goodness they are adorable:

At the day care we hung out with the children. We sang songs and then took them to the soccer field to play! It was such a joy to see them smiling and having fun 🙂
