What is metamorphosis? Most people would probably associate it with the caterpillar to butterfly transformation, and I admit, before God spoke to me about this, I did too. When I actually looked up the word though, I found two different definitions, neither of which had anything to do with an insect of any kind.
Metamorphosis: the process of transformation from an immature form to an adult form; a change of the form or nature of a thing or person into a completely different one, by natural or supernatural means.
Now after reading these two definitions, the second one immediately stuck out to me. Notice that in this definition, this ‘change’ happens “by natural or supernatural means.” God is a supernatural God, who works supernatural miracles. He has the ability to transform you. Yes, YOU.
Romans 12:2 “Do not be conformed to this world; but be transformed by the renewal of your mind, that by testing you may discern what is the will of God, what is good and acceptable and perfect.” (ESV)
The past week or so, God has spoken this message to me SO clearly. God has so graciously put me through my very own metamorphosis. I went through various struggles as a child, which in turn led me to being a mute for about a year when I was around 12 years old. Eventually I began to grow out of it, speaking one word answers only when spoken to, but I was never comfortable around large groups of people and just people in general. Social awkwardness doesn’t even begin to cover it. I usually got physically sick when I was around people I didn’t know and forced to socialize with them. But then I found God. Or should I say, He found me. He gave me my voice back. Once I found my true identity in Christ, I realized who I really am.
2 Timothy 1:7 “For God has not given us a spirit of fear and timidity, but of power, love, and self-discipline.” (NLT)
God transformed me. The old me has quite literally died, and the new me is here to stay. I am so much brighter, happier, and loving now. He brought me out of the darkness and into the light, and He has the power to do this for anyone and everyone who turn to Him. There are many worldly and earthly things that can make you happy, but pure joy can only come from a genuine relationship with Jesus. When God is all you have, all you have is all you need. He’s a good father, it’s who He is. He is perfect in all of His ways, and we are loved by Him, that’s who we are.
2 Corinthians 5:17 “Therefore, if anyone is in Christ, he is a new creature; the old things passed away; behold, new things have come.” (ESV)
I was a caterpillar. A caterpillar who had big dreams and who did not have the self-confidence to pursue them. But with the love of Jesus, I have gone through my very own personal metamorphosis, made and planned out just for me by God Himself. And now guess what I am… a beautiful, colorful, magnificent butterfly who is now soaring through life with a purpose and with joy. MULTIPLE people have approached me in the past week telling me that they are so glad I have, “come out of my cocoon.” And all I have to say back to the is thank you Jesus. (I hope this isn’t too cheesy haha) ALSO I tried to go outside and look for a butterfly in hopes that it would land on me so that I could take a cool hipster pic to go with this blog, but as you can see I failed. Maybe next time.
If you take only one thing away from this, I hope it is to BE TRANSFORMED like Romans 12:2 says. Be transformed by God, because He wants to transform you each and every day, and He wants to shape and mold you into something even more beautiful and amazing than you already are. Don’t put limits on a limitless God. He can, and wants to bless you and to transform you. He wants to put you through your very own metamorphosis.
P.S. This is my very first blog post EVER, so bear with me here! Hopefully I will get better as time goes on!! Thank you so so so much for taking the time to read this! 🙂
