The doctor confirmed it. I’m pregnant.

It’s a girl.

(SIGH OF RELIEF)

This is the thought process of many mothers who live in communities heavily infiltrated with sex trafficking.

But why is it a sigh of relief, you ask?

Mothers who are pregnant hope their child is a girl; in that way, if the family faces a financial crisis they can sell their daughter to make money.

Last month in Thailand my team served with Remember Nhu a sex-trafficking prevention ministry. Nhu, a former victim of the sex-trafficking industry, decided she wanted to help stop exploitation. She didn’t want kids to have to go through the same pain and struggle she went through. With that as her vision, she teamed up with others to create safe homes where kids who were in high risk of being sold would be rescued, loved, and educated.

As I served last month, there were so many surreal moments where I caught myself staring at the children playing or laughing in front of me. How different would their life have been in that given moment had it not been for this ministry? I tried not to dwell on those thoughts too long because I knew that for most of them, there lives would look completely different. They would not have the innocence that they currently carried. They would not have the joy of a child who does not have to worry about being abused so their family could eat.

The kids at Remember Nhu are the lucky ones. The ones that were blessed. They have escaped sex slavery… but there are SO MANY more young men & women out there who are suffering the same things I won’t let my mind imagine.

But we can do something about it.

How can you help?

Instead of donating money to porn magazines or websites, invest in preventative or post sex-slavery movements. You would be surprised how many of those posing in those magazines are being forced.

How can you help?

Instead of supporting brothels, sponsor a child to get educated. The demand for these women is what is keeping the Pimps employed.

How can you help?

Get informed. Don’t turn a blind eye to the lifestruggle that many are being forced to live. So many men, women, and children are in slavery, let us help!
