What is the Adventures In Missions? Adventures In Missions is a nonprofit organization that has been around since 1989.
What purpose does Adventures In Missions serve? To mobilize people to missions as a means of discipleship.
What is The World Race? The World Race is one of many mission trips Adventures In Missions offers to people seeking to follow Christ in this area of their life.
How long will you be gone? I will be gone for 11 months to 11 different countries.
What countries will you be going to? Romania, Ukraine, India, Sri Lanka, Kenya, Uganda, Rwanda, Thailand, Malaysia, & Cambodia, Ireland.
When do you leave? I will be leaving Lord willing July 1, 2013. If I don't meet all of my financial and other deadlines in time I could be rerouted to a later route. But praying that doesn't happen unless it's God's will.
How many will be going with you? Right now it looks like a total of 12 people , but on the last route I was shooting for in Jan. there were a total of 72 so that numb. can definitely change. For this particular mission trip you have to be between the ages 21-35 to go. We will also be split into teams of about 6-7 people. The team leader will be picked at training camp.
What is training camp? Training camp will last a week in Georgia. The purpose of training camp is to prepare us as much as possible for what we are about to experience for 11 months. So they will be bringing in some of the food we will be eating. We will be back packing and living in tents for that week. We will be taking cold showers and learning to live with very few belongings. The biggest purpose for training camp is to prepare us spiritually for our journey/ mission trip. We will be learning about God and how to lose the earthly chains we have and how to forsake all and follow Christ.
When is training camp? Training camp is sometime during the month of May 2013, they haven't set a specific date yet.
How much will you be raising for your mission trip? Adventures In Missions requires us to raise a total of $15,500 that we send them or our sponsors send them and is put in an account.
What does the $15,500 go to? The $15,500 is to mainly cover the costs of travel and also food and lodging. But from what I've read it sounds like the main portion goes to traveling. Because several blogs say to bring extra cash for some food or water or other supplies like laundry soap and other items we will need to restock on.
I thought you will be living in tents so why pay for lodging? From what I understand some groups will actually stay in hostels or at host homes and won't use their tents very often. But some groups will actually spend most of their time in tents. So I guess it all depends on where & when your going. Not sure.
How will you live? We will mainly be back packing which means that all of our supplies to live for a 11 months has to fit into a week long back pack and a regular sized back pack. That includes, tent, sleeping bag, clothes and whatever else you will need.
What else will you be needing for this journey besides your $15,500? Tons more. First off lots and lots of prayers. =) Also I will need more money. Yes I know I said the m word again. But everybody who's gone tells us to bring extra cash for emergencies and for our other needs. They suggest about $100 extra for each month so that means $1100. Also I need lots of camping supplies like a tent, sleeping bag, and several other items. I have been paying for these things out of my own pocket so far. Oh and money for flights or frequent flier miles.
Why do you need money for flights if the $15,500 is for travel expenses? The $15,500 doesn't cover all of the traveling expenses. I had to pay $200 and some odd dollars for the tickets and will have to pay more for my luggage to training camp. I will also have to pay for tickets to meet up to where we are all going to fly out together on July. 1, 2013. and also when I come back in March. will have to buy some tickets to get back to Fort Worth from where ever we fly into the U.S.
What will you be doing on your mission trip? We will mainly be helping orphans, people trapped in human trafficking, teaching the gypsies youth English and some getting them involved in some constructive sports activities, we will be ministering to widows, the elderly, prostitutes, pretty much whoever God sends our way.
Will it be dangerous? Probably, but we have God watching our backs and Adventures In Missions stays on top of what happening in the countries we will be going to and if they feel the need they will reroute us or pull us from a country. Also we are encouraged to hang out in groups at all times and at least have one of our men with us while wandering around or serving.
Will you be able to keep in touch? Yes, you can comment on my blog posts or if you know my email address you can email me or comment on my Facebook page. Don't however be surprised if it takes me a while to respond. I've heard internet access will be limited.
Can we mail you anything while you are gone? No. We will be traveling a lot and some of the places we may be going to are very remote. So it will probably never get to me. So save your money or save what ever it is if it's really awesome 😉 till I get back. =D
What about your health? We are actually required to get some vaccinations before we leave and we are required to have traveler's insurance policy. Also hope all of y'all will be praying about me never needing any medical attention.
Will you be able to explore some scenic sights and stuff on your days off? Right now that answer looks like a no. I'm just trying to get all the immediate financial stuff taken care of so this would probably be a no. Not unless it's free. =D
Why are you going on this? Because I have been searching for some time for where God wants me and what He wants me to do. I want to live a life of purpose and something I'm passionate about. I feel like this is where God has lead me. So far even with some fears and doubts the devil keeps throwing my way God has given me peace about this Journey. And He also reminded me that I've been praying for true faith, to trust Him more, and to re-soften my heart again for the things that break his heart.
Why not a shorter mission trip? Simple, I feel like God has called me to this one not a shorter one. If you want a better answer to that you'll just have to ask God, cause I'm not entirely sure why this one myself. =)
How much do you have raised right now? If I calculated right God has blessed me with about $2900. so far.
When do you have to have all of your money? I have due dates that I am required to meet on my fund raising. Probably May 1st. or 2 weeks before training camp I have to have $3,500 in my Adventures In Missions account. June. 17th. I have to have $6,500 in my Adventures In Missions account. Sept. I will have to have $11,000 on my AIM account. By the Dec. I have to have the full $15,500 in my AIM account. If I calculated that correctly. In order for me not to have to have all of my money by end of June though I have to have sponsors who have agreed to continue to pay AIM monthly while I'm gone to reach my March and June deadlines. If I don't have any committed sponsors who will continue to pay AIM while I'm gone I will have to have the full $15,500 by Dec. 31.
What would happen if your sponsor quit paying while you were on your mission trip? Then they would have to send me home early. =( Please don't let that happen.
Are you crazy for taking on something this big with such a short time frame to get it all done? Yes, I am. I'm crazy for Christ because I know if this is truly His will like I believe it to be that He will make the way and it will all turn out in the end.
Weren't you going in Jan. 2013? Yes, I was planning on going in Jan. but for some reason I guess God wants me going later because I didn't meet my first deadline. I do believe God has a reason for that, but so far He hasn't revealed why just yet.
How many sponsors do you have? So far just two. =) I do have a few who say they want to sponsor me, so we'll see what happens there. God will open the doors though. God has already blessed me with almost $3,000. so He will continue to move in peoples lives.
I want to encourage you and help, what can I do? Right now THE MOST ENCOURAGING thing you can tell me and do is PRAY. Then if you know of people who might want to sponsor me or donate to this cause please feel free to share my info with them. I'm only one person and most of what I'm doing takes up a lot of my time so if you can take the initiation on things like that, would be super awesome!!!! Thanks!!!!
How do your parents feel about this? Well, I believe my Heavenly Father is proud of me even with my struggles. As for my Mom I'm pretty sure she's proud of me. Thankful she's up in heaven though maybe she won't worry about me as much up there as she would of down here. 😉 My Dad says he's proud of me. But I also want to state this isn't for my earthly parents this service is dedicated to my Heavenly Father. If You have any more questions feel free to comment below and I will be more than happy to answer them. =) God Bless!
