We locked ourselves out of our room today.

We have three keys to our lock, and it still happened. It’s very un-Lioraish thing to happen, so I’m thinking our host jinxed us when she warned us quite firmly on Day One to not lock our keys in our room.

Hannah tried valiantly during our lunch break to pick the lock (but we only had one bobby pin, and WikiHow says you need two). Megan had the idea to unscrew the whole contraption from the door (except none of the screwdrivers/other random tools fit the screws correctly). One of our ayahs brought out the giant kitchen knife and tried using it as a lever (unsuccessful). One of our other ayahs presented us with a giant rock (that might have worked, but we didn’t try it.)

Behind the locked door was our bathroom, containing the only actual toilet paper in the house. Behind the door were my chocolate cookies. Behind the door were our beds and our computers and Hannah’s shoes. There were a lot of good things behind that locked door.

So we left for our afternoon ministry with our door still locked. I went for my one-on-one with Margaret, the girl who has cerebral palsy and probably some kind of undiagnosed syndrome. Margaret is five. She can’t talk, but she does make noises. She can’t hold her head up for very long, but she problem-solves by using her hand to prop it up. She can’t walk, but with considerable effort she can roll herself from her back to her stomach.

In a way, she’s locked up.

I don’t know what all is behind the locked door of Margaret’s physical abilities. I can’t tell what goes on in her mind. But, I think there are good things behind that locked door. I’m thankful that Margaret is in a place where there are people who are trying to unlock her potential.

The children at SCH are sponsored by people like you. The goal is for each child to have sponsorships totaling $300 a month. Obviously, that’s more than a lot of people can afford, which is why kids have multiple sponsors. Margaret’s current sponsorships total $130/month. If you’d like to commit to a monthly sponsorship for Margaret to help her reach that $300, please let me know! One-time and monthly donations to SCH are so appreciated and can be given through their website: http://schindia.in/

Megan was eventually able to get our door unlocked. With the right tools, the people at SCH can unlock Margaret, too.

Thanks, friends!
