Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year!
I hope everyone had a wonderful Christmas whether it was spent in a small hut in Africa, or a spacious house in the United States.
My team and I were super blessed to have a great Christmas we were able to cook a somewhat American breakfast and did secret santa and went swimming in the local pool! Its our last week in Malaysia, so we have all gotten pretty comfortable in both our ministry here and in where we live. Although we didn’t get to be with our families in person, we were blessed with wifi so all of us were able to skype in to our individual families Christmases.
Since being on the race, the word “home” has contracted a whole new meaning to me. Before home was always a physical place, whether it meant a college dorm room or an aprtment or even someones couch I was sleeping on for the weekend, home always meant a place. Now that I am living out of a backpack, Home has ceased to become something so concrete as an actual building. Home has become people. My team consists of 5 other women from all over the country. Women that I barely knew four months ago, but who strive everyday to become, and allow me to be, home. When I think of home now I don’t think of my tent or my sleeping pad. I have learned to think of people, whether its people back home or people on on my team. Home. Where you can relax be yourself, are accepted and loved and safe. My natural tendency is to think of my normal home as my family and near friends, but these past few months I have learned that will only hinder me from staying present where I am and from investing in the people around me.So I have learned and am still learning this new concept of calling these 5 women “home”
This month is about to come to a close and we head into our last month in Asia, The Philippines! We don’t know our ministry yet , but I do know that we get to fly there! ( which is a super big deal since our last two months included 20 hr bus rides and 18 hr trains and ferry’s.) we leave in three days, Please stay updated as we learn more and continue on this adventure!! I am still fundraising as well, My goal is to be fully funded by the end of January! I am only 3,000 away! please consider partnering with me to get me fully funded by that deadline!!
