Worship is not something that is limited to the act of singing and praising God through song. In fact, worship through music is only a small portion of what true, biblical worship is all about. Worship is a lifestyle. It is the process of surrendering our entire life into God’s hands. Everything we do, canand in fact, should be an act of worship. God calls us to worship Him in our daily livesin the words we speak, the choices we make, how we treat people (loving others) and by obeying the quiet whispers of the Holy Spirit.

Living a life of worship is about living a life of love. The first and second commandments in the Bible are based on this kind of lifestyle. Matthew 22:37-38 says, “Love the Lord your God with all your heart and with all your soul and with all your mind … and the second is like it: Love your neighbor as yourself.” It’s a daily heart and mind decision to continually seek first the Kingdom of God and to obey the Spirit of God in our lives as He calls us to a greater and deeper knowledge of Himself.

Every time we open up our hearts in obedience to God and worship Him with all that we are, our beautiful Creator responds with his magnificent presence. As believers, it is crucial to continually be in the presence of God … not only on Sundays in a corporate place of worship, but also in that secret place that maybe only you and the Lord will ever know about. It is in these secret places of worship that you find yourself needing to respond to the Lord, to whatever He is asking of you. Worship pulls back the layers of our heart—to expose those things that lie underneath the surface.

This month as my (new) team and I are working with Covenant Worship Center (a ministry linked with Indian Christian Ministries), I have been reminded and had to come to the conclusion that this life I live is not my own. But rather, the life I live involves the Spirit working in and through me. The act of presenting our bodies as “living sacrifices” as talked about in Romans 12 brings glory and honor to God, while providing a sense of joy, hope and peace. Pray for me and my team as we continue to walk in this lifestyle of worship, being obedient to how the Spirit leads us and directs our steps.

Therefore, I urge you, brothers and sisters, in view of God’s mercy, to offer your bodies as a living sacrifice, holy and pleasing to Godthis is your true and proper worship. Do not conform to the pattern of this world, but be transformed by the renewing of your mid. Then you will be able to test and approve what God’s will ishis good, pleasing and perfect will.” -Romans 12:1-2
