I. AM. JUSTIFIED.
It is not by works or the law that I have been justified. Rather, God’s Word says it is by my faith in Jesus Christ that I have been able to repent and accept forgiveness for my sins because He has paid the ultimate price by dying on the cross. Galatians 2:16 says that “a person is not justified by the works of the law, but by faith in Christ Jesus. So we, too, have put our faith in Christ Jesus that we may be justified by faith in Christ and not by the works of the law because by the works of the law no one will be justified.” My past sins are no longer making me guilty, for I am freed from my past and am now found innocent.
“The Lamb of God who takes away the sin of the world” (John 1:29) is confirmation that through the Blood of Jesus Christ the removal of our sins is a reality. The sins of my past have not only been forgiven, but they are no longer a part of me. Matthew 26:28 also talks about this, which reads, “For this is my blood of the new testament, which is shed for many for the remission of sins.”
Why do I still beat myself up over past failures which have already been forgiven and removed from God’s perspective? Doing so does nobody (including myself) any good, but rather I was reminded the other day that instead, it only denies the work that Christ has done in my life. My sins have been removed, I have been made right with God, and I’m entitled to a clean conscience! Hebrews 9:14 says, how much more than, will the blood of Christ, who through the eternal Spirit offered himself unblemished to God, cleanse our consciences from acts that lead to death, so that we may serve the living God.” I am no longer going to deny God’s work in my life, but rather agree with the work that He is doing.
God says in Hebrews 10:17 “…their sins and iniquities will I remember no more.” Therefore, God has chosen to forget my failures, so that He can see me as His precious and dearly loved child who stands blameless before Him.
Finally, I can rest in knowing the promise God gives us in Romans 5:1, that “since we have been justified through faith, we can have peace with God through our Lord Jesus Christ.”
