I want to be a man.

I want to be a man known by his love.
I want to be a man known by his sacrifice.
I want to be a man that draws a crowd, yet gets no recognition.
I want to be a man who is hard to find because he is lost in his Savior.
I want to be a man whose words are but an echo of his Father’s heart.

I want to be that man.

I want to be a man who models the potter.
I want to be a man who knows his life is not his own.
I want to be a man who helps write stories for the Author of time.
I want to be a man who helps add names to the book of life.

I want to be that man.

I want to be a man loved by his wife– A man who loves his wife.
I want to be a man loved by his children– A man who loves his children.
May I love like our Risen King.
May I Shelter like our Shepherd and Refuge.
May my wife be able to tell our daughter to find a man like her father.
May my son desire to walk in the shadow and footsteps of his father.

I want to be that man.

I want to be a man who provides.
I want to be a man who gives.
May I have the obedience of Moses
                      the courage of Daniel
                      the faith of Abraham
                      the wisdom of Solomon
                      the heart of David
                      the boldness of John
                      the passion of Paul
               with the love
                      the humility
                      the mercy
                      the kindness
                      the grace
                      the patience
                      the surrender
                      the goodness of Christ.

I want to be that man.

I want to have the faith to step out of the boat.
the faith to lay down my son
the faith to reach through the crowd
the faith to lower down my friend
the faith to waste it all at your feet.

I want to be a man whose love is patient– whose love is kind.
     May I not be envious.
     May I never boast.
May I never be arrogant or rude.
May I never be irritable or resentful.
     May I never be selfish.
May I only rejoice in truth.
     May my love never end.

I want to be that man.

I want to be a man who is unashamed.
May I be wrapped in the vine.
May my soul be satisfied as with the richest of foods.
May His praises be forever on my lips.
May my hands forever be raised.

I want to be a man who has tasted and seen that the Lord is good.
I want to be a man who is a lover of your presence.
I want to be a man whose identity is in Christ.
I want to be a man whose identity is Christ.

I want to be THAT man.
