So while in Northern Thailand, we had the opportunity to take a boat ride down the river that separates Thailand and Bur//ma. This is the river that the Karen people have to cross to escape the horrible conditions that they live in. The Karen have and are being hunted down and massacred. They live traveling throughout Bur//ma moving constantly so that the military can’t find them. During our visit to the river, our mission’s contact for the month informed us that this is the same river that Rambo 4 was filmed on. Rambo 4 came out within the past couple of years and is about Rambo helping out a missions team get into the country of Bur//ma-Mir//amar, and then helping them get out after they get into trouble. Honestly I didn’t think the movie was that great, but I do think it is good to see how these people are treated. Our contact said that the fighting in the movie doesn’t really compare to what is actually going on, and the scenes in the movie are pretty dang graphic, so it is hard to imagine what it is really like. We prayed for the Karen on both sides of the river, for the ones who have fled to Thailand and the ones who are still being persecuted. It was a hard day with the realization that we could be only a few miles for were people were fighting for their lives. . The government doesn’t want them in the country but doesn’t want them to leave either… they just want them dead. In one of the villages we went to in Thailand, the water supply had been recently poisoned and many of the people there got very sick. Please, join with us as we continue to pray for these people, this has been going on for a good 20-30 years, and has no end in the near future.
