What is important to me? In assembling a packing list for nine months this question has become the bane of my existence. Even though the vital choices of what items to bring loom large. There is something still more important. Even more important that The Race is why I do what I do.
These reasons differ from question to question. Why did I eat the chicken wing? Because I was hungry and I enjoy eating chicken. Why do I take time to study and read The Word? Because I constantly am reminded of the grace of God while being shown His goodness.
Explanations are something I struggle with. I always want to know the reason why. Reasons give my action purpose and me a goal to achieve. Too many times these motives are self serving. I often set my needs as the most important. I want my needs to be met, my opinions to be validated, and my name to be lifted up. This pride is the opposite of who I am want to be. In this world of motivational cliches like “seizing the day” I have been given a reason why that rises above all of the others.
As a Christian, the Gospel should always be the primary reason. If I have a political view, the Gospel needs to be more important than statistics backing up my viewpoint. Many times the need to be correct can outweigh the grace I have been given. Too often my actions show that I have forgotten about His grace. If I truly believe in Him then my actions will back up my beliefs. As I prepare for The Race my focus has become this; to find the Gospel in everything. It’s my hope that the Lord will prepare my heart in this way before I embark on the journey.
This is something I hope you will join me in over the next few months. I challenge you see everything through the Gospel. In every lesson you hear, each post you see online find what is really important. Find the true reason why.
I am in the process of fundraising for my trip. If you would like a fundraising letter contact me and I will send you one. Likewise, if you have any questions please reach out to me.
