Hey Y’all, I’m David and welcome to my World Race blog! I am SO excited about the Race. I don’t think it has fully set in that I will be leaving in 3 short months for a journey of a lifetime!
I want to start off by apologizing because I am not very good at blogging. In fact, this is my very first blog. So bare with me, I will do my best to keep you informed on what is happening as I go on this adventure! Second, I am so happy that you made it here to follow me as I go on this amazing adventure. Keep a look out for updates as I will post updates once a week (hopefully! don’t hold me to that). I hope that through this blog you get to share in my experiences and be challenged to dive deeper in your faith with the Lord. I pray that you will be encouraged through the things that I post.
To those who don’t know me… I was born and raised in Katy, TX. Spent all of undergrad and the last 2 years in Lubbock, TX.(I spent a year living in Summit County, Colorado and hope to live again sometime) I am very proud to be a Texan. “You can take the boy out of Texas, but you can’t take the Texas out of the boy”. I say “y’all” and “yes ma’am/sir” and I eat my fair share of meat. I drive a truck and I own boots, guns, and a cowboy hat, not to be a stereotype. I like country music and love to two step, Texas two step that is (not that two step) No, I am not a Dallas Cowboys fan, but I do love football, Houston Texans and my Rockets! I graduated from Texas Tech University with a degree in Exercise Sport Science and minors in spanish, biology, and business. I have been a financial analyst, a bus driver, cardiac rehab tech, and most recently a manager of an outdoor retail/ gear shop (it’s a very small scale version of REI). I am the baby of 4. I share a birthday with my sister, who is exactly 8 years older. I have 2 older brothers, who are both in law enforcement. The oldest of those brothers is the only to get married and we like her more than him! Ha just kidding but really.
I love adventure and trying new things! I am terrible at remembering the names of actors/actresses and band names, but I love movies and music. My favorite TV show was ‘How I Met Your Mother’ and is ‘Modern Family’. I studied abroad in Spain. I have been to 5 continents and skied on 3 of those 5. Oh ya, I love to snow ski! The top thing on my bucket list is to not only go to all 7 continents, but I want to ski on all 7 continents!! I am laid back and think that sarcasm is important in communication with others. I love the outdoors, exercising, coffee and a good book, and people. I absolutely love to learn about new cultures and try to immerse myself into them.
I am going on the World Race to find and to seek God and learn more about myself. Over the last year or so, I feel that I have lost perspective and that I have gotten too focused on job and money, that I have lost sight of what God wants for my life. I am not saying that having a good job and making money are bad. For me it became all I thought about and did. Deep down I have this feeling that there has to be more than waking up and going to a 9-5 and going to sleep just do it all again the next day. (ever, seen Groundhog Day? that’s how my life was beginning to feel). A feeling that there had to be more was always in the back of my mind. That feeling just kept getting stronger, insert the World Race. I am hoping to be challenged and pushed to the limits so that the only thing I can do is trust and rely on God for everything. I like to think I can do it on my own and that I can make things happen, but I have learned time and time again thats not true.
Most importantly I am going on the World Race because the things I listed above, the things that somehow define who I am, means nothing if it weren’t Jesus Christ and what He did on the cross. Jesus is the reason I am going and the name I am taking with me, not my purpose nor my name. Matthew 28:16-20.
I am so excited to go and to see what God has in store for me and my team. It will not be an easy road but Jesus didn’t take the easy way. It will be sad to leave family and friends for 11 months, but I am excited about the new friendships and experiences to come over 11 countries in 11 months.
I am excited to share my experiences with you!
