"I am the vine; you are the branches. If man remains in me and I in him, he will bear much fruit; apart from me you can do nothing. If anyone does not remain in me, he is like a branch thrown away and withers; such branches are picked up, thrown into the fire and burned." John 15:6-7
Jesus calls us His branches. If I am a branch i need the vine in order to get nutrients and water. I need to be connected to the vine in order to sustain life. If I am not then I will die and what use is a dead and dried up branch. So therefore in order to be useful and in order to have life I must stay connected to Jesus, I need to follow Him in everything that I do. I also need to get my nutrients from Him and need to meditate on His words and put them into practice.
What is our job if we are the branches. As branches we reach out to areas not reached before and we are always searching for a place in the light of the Son. Also it is our job to bear fruit. We are God instrument for going into the world and spreading His word and making disciples of all nations. We need to lead by example because a tree can only bare fruit that is like it, a apple tree can not bare a lemon, so we must live what we are preaching. It is easy to say something but it is much more difficult to actually live it out.
So me being a branch i want to grow and spread out. I want to flower and be beautiful in the Lord, i also need to bear fruit, and not just sit idlely not doing anything productive. In order for me to do any of these things i first must come from Christ and have Him do these things through me.
