Even though I only spent 2 weeks in Bulgaria, I had a wonderful time there. We partnered with a family that is affiliated with YWAM. The lady is from Norway and the man is from Bulgaria, and they had 3 children. We were the first team to be partnered with them, so it was a new experience for both of us. Because we had such a short time there and because we were the first team to be there we did a handful of different ministries. Some of the things that I was able to do were farming, presenting in schools, running a youth group, and presenting in church services.
I was able to farm on two separate occasions. On one of the occasions I plowed an empty field so that it would be ready to plant while the other guys pruned the rose bushes that were being farmed. The purpose of the farm was to present a job for locals who were unable to find jobs elsewhere. The people would harvest the roses and then prepare the oil and perfume that was created from them to be sold. The other instance I had the chance to farm was tilling an orchard for a local pastor who had hurt his foot and was unable to work his land.
Our team also made a presentation to a few classes in the local school. Our presentation was based about what America was like as well as what we were doing on our trip. We also made a few presentations at 3 church services. We prepared testimonies as well as song for us to sing .
Another opportunity we had was to help lead a youth group. We were able to do this twice, and each week we prepared a lesson for the kids as well as a skit and a game that pertained with the lesson we learned about. The first week we learned about spreading rumors, and the second week was about listening. After we would finish with the lesson we then proceeded to play an active game. One week was a version of tag and the other was a version of dogdeball.
Although I was limited to 2 weeks in Bulgaria I enjoyed all that I did. I enjoyed get to know the culture as well as being able to try new foods. I also had a good time playing with the kids that we met. Bulgaria is the country that I wish that I was able to spend more time in, not only because of how short we did spend but also because of the contacts and our ministries.
