Simple pleasures are probably my favourite things in life. Laughing with friends, laughing with strangers, enjoying nature, creating music and spending time with God. I love to do those things.
This afternoon I went for a walk because it was a super beautiful day. There is something so cool in just enjoying beauty for the sake of beauty itself and not what I can get out of it. I didn’t go to get excercise or get a tan, or to quiet down my life or anything else. I just wanted to enjoy beauty.
On the way back I noticed some garbage and just started picking it up. Pretty soon my hands were full of garbage. Everybody that passed me smiled and said “Thank you for doing that”. It was definitely no big deal at all but I got home and was just really encouraged. When we simplify and just live for beauty naturally we begin to do beautiful things. People really appreciate it, even though it’s nothing really special. It is something really special.
I think it’s the same way with God. When we come to Him just for the sake of him. We come simply and without all the other things we could get from Him by knowing Him. We just want Him. That’s what He loves, he knows our hearts and our desires and will give us all those. But He knows that the greatest thing, the most essential thing that we could ever have is Him.
