“Miracles are unexpected joys, surprising
coincidences, unexplainable experiences,
astonishing beauties… absolutely anything
that happens in the course of my day,
except that at this moment I’m able
to recognize its special value.”
Judith M. Knowlton
Yesterday I was pondering coincidences. My best friend Tim said that that is the most powerful way that God ever speaks to him. I really love the moments of surprise when something amazing happens and you are forced to attribute the beauty of the situation to either random chance or the delight of God who holds all things in His hands. When in doubt I usually think it’s safer to give God the credit :). So I prayed this prayer
“God, can I have some coincidences?”

I don’t know if I can even remember them all and it’s only been a day and a half! But it’s been really cool. That morning we had the day off and so we wanted to enjoy the day at the lake and park in Belgrade called Ada. So we get on the bus, we had heard rumours that some of the girls on K-squad in Croatia were planning on coming to Belgrade for the day. But here we are on a bus in a city of 2 and a half million people and who do we see on the sidewalk but the ladies from our squad who were only visiting Belgrade for a day! It was so good and funny to see them and just a little God-coincidence to start the day off right.
Then we get to the park and we had wanted to rent some rollerblades and go around the lake. But we found out we need an ID to rent rollerbades or a bycicle. But only two of the four of us had our ID with us. So we were dissapointed but then got thinking and someone said “It sure would be cool if they had tandem bikes here that we could rent”. We couldn’t see any but we asked anyways and sure enough they only had two left. Exactly enough for the four of us and the number of ID’s that we had. It was awesome, God helped two us forget to bring ID’s so that we could have the idea to rent tandem bikes and have just a great fun time on them.
Then that night we were in a grocery store and I saw some paper towels that were “Love Regina” brand paper towels. I wish I had a picture but none of us had cameras. Haha, Regina is the city where I’m from and I was just blown away that they would have a brand with that name on it.
This morning we went to the biggest active orthodox church in Serbia. It was incredibly massive, the roof weighed 400 tons and took them 40 days just to lift it onto the top. Incredibly beautiful on the inside as well. The only thing that broke my heart was how it seemed that there was such a divide between God and the people who go there. Everything was so sacred, and it was like God was so distant and delicate. But God is so close, so loving, and so dynamic and vibrant that I wished somehow they could know Him and seek Him as he really is.
We walk outside and there are these speakers and for a few seconds on the speakers they play the song “Come like the rain” by Misty Edwards from the international house of prayer. A few weeks ago I started a fast in Romania and I felt led to pray for the Orthodox church that God would fall like the rain over them. So it was a huge confirmation to me that God heard my prayers and was answering them. Then a man and his wife heard us speaking english and talking about prayer and he introduced himself to us and it turns out he’s from ohio which is were April is from. They work with an NGO in serbia, and really love God a lot. It was so encouraging to talk with them and meet them kind of out of nowhere. Just another beautiful coincidence from a God who holds the strings of every situation in His hands.
