The tunnel of Hezekiah. The mount of olives. The tomb of David. The upper room. It’s finally here: Jerusalem. We made it here last Saturday. I could never let myself get too excited because I really didn’t want to get my hopes up in case something went wrong and it didn’t work out for us to get to Israel but here we are. It is absolutely incredible.
So many of my biggest passions and favourite things are found here in Israel. I love history, especially church history and the history of how God has worked throughout the generations. So Israel is just filled with amazing things and places to see. I really love healthy tasty food, and the falafels here are just unbelievable. I would likely tell someone they were lying if they accurately described to me the way that they taste here. I love hearing new viewpoints on the bible and we are staying at the house of an orthodox Jew. The conversations we have had have been fascinating and eye-opening. Also I spent a year at bible college learning to read biblical Hebrew and so it’s great to put that to use and try to read signs and pick up a few words here and there in conversation.
We have also been helping out with a soup kitchen. It’s been really beautiful to see how well they treat the people who come in. The volunteers and workers sit at the tables with the people and develop friendships and treat them like family. They serve really good food as well.
Tim is here! Tim and Rob are my two best friends ever. Probably about 6 months ago Tim booked his plane tickets to come to Israel without even thinking that I would be there at the same time with our race schedule. It was amazing how God worked everything out. We both left for Israel within almost an hour of each other. It’s likely that next week we will be able to see each other. I am just overwhelmed by God’s goodness at bringing my best friend here at the same time.
We are doing a media fast this month as a squad so writing this blog and doing my team finances are the only time that I’m using any electronics. It’s been really great to spend more time with our team and get to know each other. It’s really caused me to think at how easily I give up time to the internet and other distractions without spending it on what’s most important.
