Imagine you get to travel out to the Olympics! You are able to see some of the best athletes around the world. No doubt they have pursued their dreams but have been smart enough to rest while doing it. Great athletes can get burnt out if they don’t take the time to rest. However, some athletes never reach their full potential because they rest too much and not push themselves to purse their dreams. I think there is both resting in God and pursuing God. They both exist and will allow us to gain deeper maturity.
Resting in the Lord is for the outward in… and pursuing Him is for the inward out. By that I mean, that all the outside problems of this world gives us stress, anxiety, depression, etc. However if your resting in God’s promises and love, you can experience life without worry and stress. Being solid in your identity in Him and His promises for you. The fortified protection of the Lord covers you. All of the outside attacks cannot touch you.
Pursuing God is a personal relationship as you strive to know Him better. As you experience more of Him in spirit and wisdom, He becomes a bigger reality to you. It starts from an inward personal relationship and transforms into allowing your wisdom and testimony to speak to others. We should always minister to others which flourishes from a personal relationship with Christ. The prayer closet should be where you know what He is doing in your life and allow Him to use you to speak to others.
Rest-
“Do not be anxious about anything, but in every situation, by prayer and petition, with thanksgiving, present your requests to God. And the peace of God, which transcends all understanding, will guard your hearts and your minds in Christ Jesus.” Phil 4:6-7
“If you say, “The LORD is my refuge,” and you make the Most High your dwelling, no harm will overtake you, no disaster will come near your tent.” Psalm 91:9-10
Pursue-
“But whatever were gains to me I now consider loss for the sake of Christ. What is more, I consider everything a loss because of the surpassing worth of knowing Christ Jesus my Lord, for whose sake I have lost all things. I consider them garbage, that I may gain Christ” Phil 3:7-8
“Now this is eternal life: that they know you, the only true God, and Jesus Christ, whom you have sent.” John 17:3
