After first applying for the World Race I started reading a book titled “ In the Presence of my enemies.”  This is a true story of Martin and Gracia Burnham’s experience as prisoners in the Philippine Jungle for a year.  They were a missionary couple working in the Philippines.  One night while on a weekend vacation they were taken away and held captive in the jungle for ransom.  “Why am I reading this, especially since I am going there?” I thought.  What was remarkable is how no matter what they encountered their faith in God was strong and ever growing.  They shared of how all their “needs” were always met.  It was an extreme example of how God will take care of us no matter what circumstances we are in.  Even though they were in this horrible situation they still witnessed to their captors and showed love to their enemies.  Even though they had great fear in many instances, God was always with them.  It was a tragic ending in which only Gracia made it out alive.  But it just shows how God has control over everything.

SIDE STORY:
I am saddened that we are no longer going to the Philippines but also excited for Ireland.  I originally had 2 routes I wanted.  They were very similar except one had Ireland and the other did not.  I decided I wanted to choose the route with Ireland.  But I prayed for God to help me to make the right choice.  When I had my interview I was told that Route 2 was already filled (no Ireland).  So God wanted me on Route 4.  Then what happens?  Ireland is added to my route!!! Dream Route Made!  Thanks God!

AND WERE BACK:
Yes, we will be going to many dangerous places.  Yes it will be scary not knowing the environment, the people, and the culture.   But, no matter what the outcome is good or bad, God is in Control!  We will find comfort and be content in this fact.  We have nothing to fear whether in an uncomfortable situation or a prisoner in the Philippine jungle.  I love the song Chris Tomlin wrote “Whom Shall I Fear.”  The chorus goes like this:

I know who goes before me / I know who stands behind me
The God of angel armies / Is always by my side
The one who reigns forever/ He is a friend of mine
The God of angel armies / Is always by my side
And nothing formed against me shall stand
You hold the whole world in Your hands
I'm holding on to Your promises
You are faithful
You are faithful
You are faithful

I posted a link to a live recording of this song at Passion 2013.  I have been there the last 4 years.  If you have the chance to go it is AMAZING!  We had like 60,000 college kids this year in the Georgia Dome!
