Dear family and friends,
I hope this letter finds you well! I am writing to let you know about what has been happening recently in my life. For the past few years, it has been my dream to be a sportswriter, and I have worked hard toward accomplishing this goal – last summer I interned with Yahoo! Sports, and just last month I graduated from the University of Florida with degrees in journalism and psychology. However, during this time, God has also been working in my heart and has shown me that He has different plans for my life.
In Matthew 10, Jesus tells his disciples, "Freely you have received; freely give." I feel like I have received an abundance of blessing in my life. It is now my turn to give.
Starting in October, I will serve as a missionary through The World Race, an 11-month Christian missions trip to 11 different countries. My team and I will partner with churches and communities in Central America, Asia and Africa to share our goods, gifts and the Gospel with orphans and victims of human trafficking and those afflicted with AIDS and so many others in need of help and hope.
I am grateful that God has allowed me this opportunity. I know that I won't just be changing the lives of others on this trip – it will certainly change me, too. One of God's many names is Jehova-jireh, the LORD will provide. My prayer is that He will provide for me through you. I must raise $14,300 in order to go on the Race, and this covers all of my expenses in the field. The best way that you can partner with me is by giving monthly donations, starting now and concluding when I return to the U.S. in September 2012. If 25 people pledge $50 a month for 12 months, I will have 100 percent of the funds I need.
If you feel called to give, click the "Support Me" link on the upper left side of the page and follow the instructions.
I know that so few people get to serve God in such a way, and it would honor me to be a representative for you as I help to bring His Kingdom around the world. Please pray for me as I prepare for this journey and while I am on it, and thank you again for considering contributing to this cause.
Grace and peace,
David Gardner
