Looking back on this month in Cambodia, there is so much to be incredibly grateful for.
Top Ten (in no particular order, well, maybe just to space the photos out better):
10. The opportunity to see the amazing, ancient wonder of the world, Angkor Wat (built in the 12th century AD…it is much bigger than pictures portray)
9. Incredible cultural overview and tour of the city, organized by our “sister organization” YWAM (Youth With a Mission)
8. Growing up in a democratic country and very peaceful lifetime…the people of Cambodia have been at war with some other country or with each other for the last 30 years.
7. Hearing what’s going on, what’s all involved in rescuing human sex-trafficking victims and meeting some of the incredible staff of IJM Cambodia. (International Justice Mission). You should read ¨Terrify No More” by Gary Haugen for more in sight into what they’re all about.
6. Great activities and interactions with
our students from game nights, to
riverboat cruises to final pizza and ice cream party (a first time for all these activities for most of our students)
5. Growing closer and more cohesive, as team Luminous, through intentional conversations, 6 player Settlers of Catan and spontaneous spider-eating.
4. Incredible selection of “western” restaurants to have our date
night meals at. (Yes, mom, I’ve put back on the weight I lost in Haiti ☺ )
3. Our families and friends back home. (We’ve done most of our Christmas and upcoming birthday shopping here)
2. The Cox family. Chris & Victoria have been teaching with ELIC here in Cambodia for the last 2 years. Their entire family, including daughters Charis (5), Ilana (3) and Tova (5 months) provided such a warm welcome and cultural insight to our team, we were so blessed to live life with them this past month.
1. My wife. I am Sooo thankful to have my best friend, closest teammate and partner for life sharing every experience and good or bad moment with me, here on the ‘Race’.
