In Haiti we’ll be staying in the city of Jacmel at a YWAM base. This YWAM base will involve us in a variety of ministries. We’ll be doing door-to-door and open-air evangelism. Although it doesn’t get done very often by Evangelical churches in the states, the teams who have been doing that here in the DR have had people flocking to them to hear about Jesus and to receive his salvation. It’s amazing to watch God work. We’ll then spend those nights hosting mini revivals, where there will be drama, music, preaching and a lot else. The second week will continue the evangelism, but will transition into a focus on children, and we will run one or two VBS programs. The last week will be spent deepening the relationships we’ve built. It will be a short month, less than three weeks in Haiti, but busy and fruitful. One of the really cool things about this ministry is that we’ve been paired up with a team of girls that just mesh well with our hearts. If you go to the main world race page for the January 2009 race, their team is the Gentle Warriors. Tonya, Kim Jerkins, Renee, Steph Tyrna, Erica Tally, Jenni Weir and Rebecca Billings. Pray that both teams have energy to do all that God has called us to, that we pour into each other, and that we understand the closeness of God throughout Haiti.
March will be spent in Cambodia. Team Spectacle will be living alone in the town of Angkorwat. A lot of the movie Tomb Raider was filmed in and near this city, amongst ancient ruins. Zach and I will be spending the majority of our time in a monastery working with men who have come for a free education, free food and lodging, freedom of religion, as well as many other privileges. We’ll get into the monastery to talk with them about everything from life to philosophy, but most importantly, about Christ. Our girls will be teaching English, and should have a lot of deep ministry too, but it will also be a month for us all to find some rest and spend time in intercessory prayer. (p.s. the couple we’ll be staying with are Fhonkie and Haya – his name is pronounced Funky – and one of their favorite things to do is karaoke! You know it fits our team well!) This stop has not been 100% finalized, but has been verbally told to us. I tell you so you can be praying that the Spirit goes before our team, and that we are able to walk into the good works that God will have prepared in advance for us to do.
