This month 3 other people and I had the awesome privilege to speak to 8th – 11th-grade students about sex! When I first found out that I would be teaching Sex Ed, I was kind of disappointed because out of all the ministry options Sex Ed was at the bottom of my list. However, Sex Ed has been my favorite ministry so far.
The morning of the 2nd day of class, I decided to have a conversation with God during my devotion “God I really don’t know what to say to these students; what should I say?” God answered by saying “I want to speak to them directly.” He also told me that a lot of them were operating under lies, and to share 4 truths with them. I decided to write another blog post called “Here’s the Truth!” that talks about the 4 truths. Read them here!
After telling the other 3 people what I heard, we decided to incorporate listening prayer into the class. Listening prayer is when you invite God to speak to you. If you are like me before the race, I typically would pray (talk) to God and go on about my day. However, with listening prayer, instead of just talking to God, you sit and allow God to speak Truth to you.
My favorite part of the class was the listening prayer section because God spoke EVERY SINGLE TIME. We told the students to ask God “What do you love about me? Why do you think I’m special? What do you want me to know?” Then they wrote down what they heard on the chalkboard.
When God spoke tears started rolling down their faces, faces started turning red, lies started breaking from the weight of truth, and they found hope. Students started writing things like “You mean the world 2 me! And I really do care how you feel!” “You will always be good enough!” “Do not be afraid, I am with you.” “My Son” “You are loved” “I am the way” “forgiven” “One of a kind” “I made you like me!” “You are who you are.” “You are mine!” “I love you no matter what and I have a bright future for you” “Special” “I bought you with my son’s blood.” “You will rise a new person” “You are my treasures” “God loves and forgives me!” “God told me I should become a soldier to fight in His Name.” “God told me that he is always with us. We just have to trust him.” “I am not a failure!” “You are my flower” “Open up your heart and let me in” “Stay humble and kind” “I fight for you every day!” “Why worry what people think of you. God knows who you are that’s all what matters” “jy is geskep in my beeld. om groot dinge te doen (you were created in my image to do great things)” “Hurt no more my child for you are loved.” “You make me smile J” “You are a Man of God” “I’m always here.” “Ek sal jou plek van vrede wees (I will be your place of peace)” “Come away with me” “Guard your heart above all else because everything you do flows from it” “Ek is hier vir jou (I am here for you)” “Your tears are precious to me!” “Freedom is yours!” “Peace is coming your way” “You will find your peace” “Because you can!” “I will catch you even if you’re falling” “He loves us all. So we need to love one another” “Follow me. Come to me” “He’ll save me.” “He is the light in the darkness” “Even though you are blind and deaf, you can hear and see God.” “Come with me.” “You are perfect the way you are.”
God is alive! God is so good!
