Babies are fun.
…especially when they’re not yours.I’ve learned that this month. At the hospital where we’ve been serving, there’s a recuperation wing for malnourished babies. If work is slow or finished for the day, we’re free to go and hold the little ones.
The babes stay with their moms and are fed ’til they gain enough weight to be released. Side note: Guatemalans are huge on breastfeeding. Absolutely huge. However, two of the little ones don’t have moms. Rosario and Macario are orphans who are recovering at the hospital until they’re healthy enough to graduate toan orphanage.
Macario is a trooper. And hilarious. Even though he’s 3 years old, he’s got the physicalbuild and emotional habits of an infant duetoneglect. Happily, in the 3 weeks we’ve been here, he has gone from zero to hero — getting stronger, more vocal, and more mobile daily. Although he’s still mostly infant, what’s the one quality of a 3-year-old that he does posses? Sass. Aw yeah. The boy has the funniest attitude & I love it. He’s a hospital celebrity.
As several of us were repainting the nursery, Mac Daddy and I got some quality time in together. I took a picture to send as a SnapChat to friends, and after looking at it, realized he totally copied my facial expression.
Exhibit A:

Even though he can’t speak yet, he’s got a ridiculous personality-to-pound ratio. So I figured we would have some fun with this. And we did.

He is so much sunshine to the square inch.
I encourage you right now to send up a quick prayer for our boy, Macario. Join me in praying for health and a good home. The personality he’s been given is too golden not to thrive for The Lord in a solid family.
Pray for his future parents, education and relationship with God and others. This is a Luke 2:52 prayer: And Jesus grew in wisdom and stature, and in favor with God and man.As he matures, may his first three years of life not be marked by abuse and neglect, but seeing Jesus fighting for and growing him.
Cheers to breast milk, selfies & sassy toddlers,
Darcie
