Hey Everyone! As you probably guessed I’m writing this from in Romania. The internet access hasn’t been a whole lot so I’ve been slow to get my blog out. Anyways, my most frequent question I get that I thought would be fun to write about is “Why are you going on the World Race?” so here it is.

Short version: I wanted to make my faith more personal

Long version: Growing up in a Christian home going to Church every Sunday, naturally, I was taught pretty early about who Jesus is and what it it meant to be a Christian and then chose to become a Christian. Growing up, I never really felt a personal relationship with Jesus. it was more like my parents do this so I’m going to do this, and kind of treating my faith like a checklist. For example: Cool I went to church today, I’m done with that and now I can go screw around since I gave God his measured out hour. I was treating it more as a chore and I wasn’t letting myself get anything out of it and really just going through the motions.

More recently (my senior year), I was looking back and didn’t see the point of the kind of ‘half effort’ I was putting into being a Christian. Since being a Christian and having a personal relationship with God was something I actually wanted, I decided to take it more seriously and look into some things I could do before college to help me. I’ve done some missions trips in the past and have been involved in some community service through my Church, so I started looking for those kind of opportunities that I could’ve done in this past summer after graduation. I had a cousin that took a 6 month long mission trip through this Christian organization called YWAM (Youth With A Mission) so I started looking into them. I wanted to keep my options open though and not just focus on YWAM. After looking into the different options, I started looking into the idea of taking a gap year and heard of this Christian organization called The World Race from a friend from Church (shout out to Jen Hemphill). She talked about how this organization travels all over and how they are so grounded by faith and it really interested me. Obviously that’s what I ended up doing since you’re reading this off of my blog site but I saw it as an opportunity to take a year and focus on this God that has changed my life.

So here I am in Romania, on the world race!

Thanks for your guys support! La revedere (goodbye)!
