Hearing with your ears is just one method of communication.

God is just above being restricted to sending messages only to be received by the ears. He created us uniquely and speaks to us in ways that we know; when the shepherd speaks, the sheep know his voice.

Over the weekend there was a 24 hour time of pray and worship at the Adventures office that I decided to attend. It provided a place and created an atmosphere to not only spend time with the Lord, but a variety of outlets of expression. For the 24 hour span, someone was always leading worship: you could sing, dance, play an instrument, sit, pray, be prayed for, journal, read, use art supplies, and simply just be.

I ended up staying at the office for about 14 hours.

During this time, physically, I was tired. As much as I would rather have slept in a bed than straight on a cold concrete floor, I still wanted to stay there for as long as I felt the need to be there.

It was such a free environment to be in.

Honestly, I didn’t pray for 14 hours straight or feel like I was any more loved by the Father than I already am. To think that he could possibly love me any more than he demonstrated by sending Jesus would lead me to think that he is withholding love from me. He’s not.

He isn’t withholding any love from us at all. My life has been a journey of discovering and experiencing the fullness and richness of the never-ending love already gifted to me.

What I needed most was exactly what I received: some rest. Not necessarily physical rest, but rest in my spirit.

That night I heard with my entire being:

“This is what life is to be like. Just be in my presence. When you’re tired and fall asleep, I’m here, singing over you. When you wake up, I’m still here. You’re never out of my sight, my son. Live a life in my presence, that’s worship.”

This simple song we learned at our 8 month debrief on the Race came back to me recently:

“I breathe in, what You breathe out…

I don’t know where you start and I stop anymore…”

In what ways has God been speaking to you? Have you been listening for it?

Thanks for following my journey.
