Ring.
Have you ever waited for a phone call or text for what seemed like forever? So anxious for that communication that every passing moment felt like an hour? Perhaps there was an important piece of information that you were waiting to hear, or you were waiting to make plans with someone special to you. But regardless of the circumstance, you just wanted your phone to hurry up and ring. That’s kind of where I was spiritually in 2015.
I was less than a year away from graduating, but I still wasn’t really sure what I wanted to do with my degree. I knew that I wanted to be in ministry. That is the point of going to Bible College, right? But where? And what kind? And how soon? I spent several nights in prayer, just asking God what He had in store for me, all seemingly to no avail.
RING.
My plan had always been youth ministry. And yet even as I told people that was my plan after graduation, something rang hollow. It wasn’t that I didn’t want to be a youth pastor. I just had a sense that something else was coming up.
RING.
Finally, I heard the call. Missions? That wasn’t the plan! Are you sure, God? Because I’m not! I had been waiting for this call for a long time, but now my finger was dangerously close to the figurative ignore button. I did ignore it for awhile. But no matter what, the idea wouldn’t go away. Fine. I had to consider it. I spent dozens of nights praying, making sure this was really what God wanted. Before long, it became clear that it was. So I answered the call.
All of this leads up to the big news. God has called me onto the foreign mission field with an organization called Adventures in Missions. This coming August, I will be embarking on an eleven month journey that will take me (and the Gospel) to eleven different countries, spread across Central America, Africa, and Asia. I’m extremely excited to see what awaits me out there, and to see how God will move!
If I could, I’d like to ask you to partner with me in prayer as I prepare to start fundraising, buying the gear and supplies I need, and other things I need to get in order before I leave in about six months.
If you have any questions about any of this, I would love to talk to you! Feel free to comment here, send me a Facebook message, text me, call me, or whatever method of communication you prefer. God Bless!
