Like Birds We Will Fly
Through the dark and in the Light
Weaving through impoverished streets
Praying to our Lord, whose plan we seek
Planting seeds of faith for our Father to sow
For our Father is the Sovereign Creator
And He wants the whole world to know.
We will bat our wings until our lungs crave rest
Hoping to change lives while
Away from the nest
This poem is a bit cheesy, yes, but I love it so much. I was laying in bed sick with the flu a while ago. It was late, I couldn’t sleep and I was feeling so awful that even thinking too hard made me sick to my stomach. Out of nowhere those first words of “Like Birds We Will Fly” popped into my head and this little poem immediately started flowing out afterwards. It didn’t matter how nauseous I was, I had to write this down! I could barely look at my screen as I typed it out and then fell right to sleep soon after finishing it.
This poem is so much more to me than just a random thought. I was going through a very confusing and low season with God at the time and the Lord gave me hope through these words. It gives me hope today. Hope that I can hold onto when Satan tries to fill me with doubt that I can’t fly. Hope to hold onto when I don’t feel like God is truly calling me to this.
Through these words of hope, God spelled it out to me so clearly: If God can give me the power to fly, then he surely won’t let me fall. By this I mean that God is allowing me to go on the World Race because he believes in me, he believes that I will not fail him through this trip and that I have the power to help Him further the Kingdom. This message is the most reassuring and comforting thing I could have heard in that time.
Birds are born with a very simple purpose– they learn to fly so they can go around eating plants, gathering seeds from the plants that will eventually be dispersed during periods of flight or migration. God gave me a very simple purpose– to fly around the world, dispersing small seeds of God’s grace and power to His children. God is calling me to plant the seed of faith in His sons’ and daughters’. He will shower it with water daily, through His extravagant love. Soon that small seed God called me to plant will bloom inside of each person. Then God will call to them to fly like birds and plant the seeds that will make His Kingdom grow.
