We wait until 12:00 and yell when it hits.

We look around and the sky is all lit.

Lit up from fireworks filling the air,

We sip our sparkling juice using the concrete as a chair.

As I watch the sky fill with colors and light,

I am reminded of the beauty that comes from New Year’s Night.

The promise of change and new found truths,

A new beauty is growing from old and deep roots.

Although the old roots are still in the ground,

New flowers bloom proclaiming bold sounds.

“A year of freedom, a year of stepping out of fear.

A year of being confident” I proclaim for everyone to hear.

I said that standing up,

Hands on hips, shirt front-tucked.

I announced it into the atmosphere,

Followed by everyone letting out a loud cheer.

I said it.

It’s put out.

2019 is a year of uncertain change,

And sometimes new truths can seem strange.

But strange is good, and change will come.

2019 has just begun.

Cheers to the new year.
