Tour Time!
An inside look at our life in Cambodia.

This month we are staying with a family who lives across the river from Phnom Penh. I wanted to take you all on a tour of our abode for the month to give you a little inside look into life on the race.

Story time with Mama. This is almost a nightly occurrence, followed by her attempts to teach us Khmer. When I took this photo, she was sharing about what she went through during the Khmer Rouge. (Separate blog coming later.) This is our house. This one room is the front room, the bedroom, and the living room all in one.

This is our Papa in the kitchen. Meals are cooked only after gathering firewood, and dishes are done through the rinse, wash, and rinse buckets on the ground on the left of the picture. Most of the time, Pick is our cook, but since the whole family is in town for the new year, several hands are required in the kitchen.

This is the covered patio/garage/laundry room. Most of the time it is too hot to be inside during the day, so we spend a lot of time reading and hanging out with the family out here.

These are our faithful modes of transportation for the month. The first two are farm equipment used by Papa and the family out on their banana, papaya, mango, and lemongrass farm. The one on the right is the ride we take to ministry everyday. It’s always a hilarious game of “who can stay in their seat” since the bumps on the road make taking this ten minute ride more like riding a bull.

This is our laundry room/back yard. The view is amazing, especially at sunset.

Life on the race is drastically different every few weeks, and being here in Cambodia this month has made that reality abundantly clear. I have such a sincere appreciation for the way life is done here. It’s tough. The heat is brutal, the days are long, and just simply doing enough work to survive is exhausting; however, this family wakes up every morning at 5:30 and automatically starts their chores with such joy in their hearts, because they know the God that has saved them from so much. Their goal is to one day no longer be the only Christians in their village. They are the definition of overcomers, and they aim to show Christ’s light through it all.

*Fundraising update: I need to be fully funded by April 30th. I need $3,178 to get there. Don’t forget that if I’m fully funded by April 30th, team Themelios and I will eat a scorpion and film it for your viewing enjoyment. So will you give up a coffee this week and donate that $5 here?
