Today was our first day in Mtenguleni, the village we are staying in. The 15th of every month people from around the village come to get tested for HIV at the clinic we are staying at. The room was filled with people. Before they get tested there is a church service. Pastor John introduced my team and I, and had us go around the room to pray for the people before they were tested. After the service we went to our room and continuously had people from the clinic and from the village come and share their stories and asked for prayer. It was hard hearing their stories but it was amazing to see the courage and the faith of the people.
After a few hours of sitting on the deck and praying for people it started raining and boy did it pour out. Mandi, Alyssa and I decided we wanted to dance in the rain. We started dancing and we sang Mwamb-Mwamba a song in Nynja (the national language in Chipata) that we learned on our first day. Within a few minutes we were surrounded by children. They danced and song with us for over an hour. I love being in the village. The people have so much love and welcomed us with open arms and have truly made us feel at home.
