45. The disciples pick wheat on the Sabbath
– Matthew 12:1-8; Mark 2:23-28; Luke 6:1-5
Matthew 12:1-2 “At that time Jesus went through the grain fields on the Sabbath. His disciples were hungry and began to pick some heads of grain and eat them. When the Pharisees saw this, they said to him, ‘Look! Your disciples are doing what is unlawful on the Sabbath.”
According to the Pharisees, there were 39 categories of actions that were forbidden on the Sabbath. These actions were based on interpretations of God’s word. Interpretations could be false. Yet, they stood by their interpretations and could not see beyond their law’s technicalities. People stand by laws because they want to know what is wrong and right. But, our God is a God of compassion. If it was based on only right and wrong, then we would all be wrong. We have all fallen short of the glory of God. Thankfully, our God had compassion to come to the earth through his son and save us. Change your judgement for love.
