Ministry this month has been slightly different than the rest of my team, mainly because of what I like to call my giant blue accessory on one leg. Read parts 1 and 2 to learn about the details of what caused me to have this lovely little accessory of a cast. But luckily for me, I have my gimpy buddy by my side most days, so we've found other activities to keep us busy throughout the weeks.

Here's how some simple tasks turn into major events as a gimp on the World Race:

  1. Starting your morning trying to climb out of your tent is a major accomplishment. For me that means swinging my casted leg barely through my tent opening. For Danae that means gathering all her belongings before pulling herself up onto her crutches with a little instability.

  2. Quickly hand washing clothes does not exist this month. It now consists of making sure everything is in arms reach because there's no such thing as quick movements with a cast.

  3. Since we can't readily jump into the shower to rinse off, the sink or a close friend with a baby wipe will suffice to wash our dirty feet and legs.

  4. Walking right down the road to enjoy some tacos for lunch turns into getting dressed up and looking cute because we don't get out as much as gimps.

  5. Doing some simple rock painting to beautify the property turns into an organized set up, knowing we can't jump up and out of our chairs swiftly and smoothly.

  6. A day at the beach with a local school means making due with the chairs provided for our elevated leg time throughout the day.

  7. Danae not knowing she's playing footsies with me because of our casts creating a barrier against all outside feeling.

More to come to this list as the month goes on and hopefully will be able to upload pictures as well! I go back to the doctor on Monday to get my cast off. Please pray that my knee has healed and only physical therapy will be needed!
