There's nothing like a good commissioning to make you think about what you've gotten yourself into!
The 2nd most popular question that you have asked me about this calling is,
"What will you be doing?"
It's a reasonable question, and I can't stand not having the answer. How can I be passionate about 'this thing I signed up for' if I don't even know what I'll be doing? There are ministries that get me really excited (youth ministry, homeless ministry, etc), but there are also ministries that I don't feel called to. Maybe we'll be doing street ministry or door-to-door for 11 months, and there's no youth or homeless to be found! (Although I really doubt that.)
Even 2 days before launch I can't tell you what ministries I'll be doing. This thing I signed up for gives no specifics! But here's what I will tell you.
God knows.
He knows what ministries He has planned for us. He knows where our giftings lie, where we will learn the most, and He has a divine planning ability to provide us all with exactly the work that we need. As long as we follow His plan, we'll be in good shape. So let's put Him in the driver's seat and let go of needing control.
I'll be serving Him.
All of this is for the Lord. Let me tell you, there is nothing that would make me sleep in a bag on a mat and expose myself to bugs of every breed for 11 months, if it weren't to expand His kingdom. So whatever work we do, it has the same end goal, and that's what gets me excited.
"What on earth did I sign up for?"
It's an opportunity to follow the Lord into the unknown.
