Merly is an incredible woman. But don’t tell her I said that! She wouldn’t want to hear it.
It doesn’t take long in a conversation with her to hear true wisdom. Whether we’re talking about something she’s done, where she lives, her kids – anything – she points it back to God. Her favourite phrase is “Glory to God because…” Fill in the blank.
She once said, “Glory to God because he gave me humility.” How simply profound! That statement alone is self-confirming.
Merly says, “I asked God to make me humble, and glory to God because He has blessed me with that.”
Or, “I prayed for 10 years for a children’s bible, and glory to God because now we have one!”
Or, “I asked God to teach me how to make beaded keychains and purses (to sell). Glory to God because He gave me wisdom to learn.”
She sees something special – that nothing we do is attributed to our strength, our work, or our intelligence. Because really, God is our strength, He gives us the ability to work, and our intelligence comes from Him.
It was a pleasure to live at the same camp as Pastor Jomar, his wife Merly, and their 4 little kids. We got to see them everyday, which led to these great conversations and insight to Philippino culture.
Glory to God because He blessed us with an incredible host family in the Philippines!
