Right now in Quiché the rain is pounding with occasional thunder, the squad is dispersed around the city, and many who remain at camp are struck with the sniffles. But this is a good day to praise the Lord.
In case you're wondering, here's a rough picture of daily life here.
7:50 a.m. My team, Tikkun Olam (Repair the world), meets together and starts the day off right – a little scripture, a little prayer.
8:00 a.m. Today we had delicious french toast, fruit and yogurt for breakfast (made by another team for the whole squad). 9:00 a.m. One-on-one with God.
10:00 a.m. Often we have some kind of squad-wide meeting, not today.
11:00 a.m. Short van ride to weekday ministry sites. (Gracias, Roberto!) My team, Tikkun Olam, is painting an orphanage.
12:00 ish p.m. Eat bagged lunch (gotta love those ham and fake cheese sandwiches!)
12:45 p.m. Kids return home from school (Where we have also done some work.)
12:46 p.m. Productivity dwindles.
2:15 p.m. Brief rain storm. (Time varies.)
4:45 ish p.m. We get driven back to camp by Roberto (Hasta mañana, Roberto!)
6:00 p.m. Dinner! Made by one team for whole squad.
7:00 p.m. Squad-wide worship session. Sometimes this is led by those of us with guitars & ukuleles, other times by just voices. These sessions vary greatly. Sometimes they go consist of corporate confession by complete vulnerability, other times we have a dance party. Praise Jesus, there is no shortage of fun doing his work!
Each day we have an opportunity. Not just missionaries, everyone does.
One thing I´ve been told many times by many wise people is that this is an opportunity. God isn´t going to force himself on me just because I´m here. Believe it or not, you CAN be a missionary and not grow spiritually. Each day I am to seek Him. And so are you!
So let us start looking at every day as an opportunity to seek Him.
P.S. Pictures coming!
