Half this blog was written pre-race. Here it is with a an update at the end.
Ok. I’ll be honest. I haven’t written too much because I’m terrified of writing the wrong thing or something “too deep” or uninteresting or insufficient. Sounds like an anxiety attack in the making! What then has helped me through these moments of doubt, stress, overwhelm, or inadequacy? The promises of God.
No seriously… let’s take a deeper look…
“I can do all things through Christ who gives me strength”
Let that marinate in your mind a moment…Read it again a few times, pausing on each word. I can literally do ALL, any, inclusive of, everything, in total, the things that God has called or led me to do. Have a difficult conversation? Done/Handled. Forgive someone from a place of deep and long seated wounds? Done. Go on a crazy 11 month missions trip with funding, energy and all else that’s necessary to make it happen? Done. Obviously it’s within Gods timing and not our own because healing takes time and trips require preparation but this promise removes doubt, fear, inadequacy, or any other blockage to our blessings!
That was fun, let’s try another.
“It is for freedom that Christ has set us free; therefore do not again be burdened by the yoke of slavery…”
This one is written on my bathroom mirror. (Relax, In dry erase marker!) Every day I am reminded that the bondage of slavery to sin has been broken. BROKEN! As defined by my iPhone, broken: “Having been fractured or damaged and no longer in one piece or working order”. Severed, in pieces, damaged! What does that mean then? It means that I no longer have to succumb to addiction in any form, unhealthy behavioral or emotional patterns, negative or destructive thoughts, living in un-forgiveness or grieving the Holy Spirit. I am free to believe and walk out the truths that the Lord says about me in his word.
Lately I have been working on memorizing scripture and recalling it whenever a doubt, fear or lie enters my thinking. It is an incredibly powerful practice to filter our thoughts through the truth of the Word. I encourage you to think about a fear, doubt or lie that has been holding you back from living in the freedom available to us. Counter that message with a message from the Lord and guard it in your heart knowing it’s truth. I would love to hear what they are and how I can be praying for you!
