So I just got back from my month of ministry here in Nepal. It has been a rough month for a lot of teams. We had two teams get into a bus wreck right off the bat, and then 3 other squad-mates got into another wreck 2 weeks later. We had one person on the squad decide to go home. At least half the squad has been sick this month. You get the idea. Luckily, my team was spared most of that. We were located in Haripur-Sarlahi, Nepal. We were in the Bush. Like for reals. We slept in a two-story mud house we called the Tree House under mosquito nets. Our beds were actually tables with mats on them. We had a rat, not a mouse, that came to visit every night. At one point it crawled over my hand and leg through the net. I didn't scream. I was quite proud of myself! We ate rice everyday. We had no internet (and no where close to go for internet). The market sold drinks, cookies, and mosquito coils but not toilet paper (it is NOT fun to drip dry!). For ministry, we built a fence out of bamboo, which we cut from the jungle ourselves. We also walked several hours each way (like through the river and the jungle) to different neighboring villages to hand out tracts and talk to people. We got to pray over people and even do a little basic preaching in the streets. We had church on Saturday, and at the last service, we all had to do something (sing, preach, tell your favorite verse, etc). I got to bring a message. It was cool. Our interpreter's name was Puza. There were two boys who were our constant companions, Samuel and Youaness (You-wan-nes). Youaness did an awesome Justin Bieber impression. We got it on video.
Also, I am now the only person on my team without a shaved head. Yeah, that's right. The other 3 girls shaved their heads. I am however, getting braids as soon as we get to Nairobi. I might even go ahead and get a colored weave to go with it. 🙂 We are supposed to be going on a sightseeing flight to Mt Everest on Wed in honor of Savannah's b-day but there is stuff going on at Basecamp so I don't know if that will happen. But we are hitting Pizza Hut. Words cannot describe how excited I am for Pizza Hut.
We fly to Nairobi on the 13th I believe and we will have debrief for about a week. This is where the field support people will fly out to see us and at the end of the week we will say goodbye to our old Squad Leaders. I think the squad is planning to go to Carnivore in Nairobi which is this place where you can try zebra and wildebeest. Should be interesting. I am not exactly sure where we will be in Kenya for ministry because we got switched with another team. I'll keep you posted as best as I can.
Ok that's all I can think of to update you on right now.
FUN FACT: It is the year 2068 BS in Nepal.
IMPORTANT FACT: I flippin' LOVE my team.
Support Update: I am still about $3000 away from being fully funded. I have to be fully funded (that can include pledges) by the end of the year. If you have been meaning to give or just want a good cause to donate to, please consider supporting me. I really need it. I do not want to have to leave the Race early because of lack of funding. I am expecting God to do BIG things through me (it's been prophesied over me multiple times) and I don't want to have to be distracted by my support account. Please help!
