LightHouse, Battambang has been our ministry site for this month.
Myself and my team of 7 have had the opportunity this past month to live at Lighthouse as missionaries and guests. Through teaching English, helping with projects, and building relationships among the students and staff, we have been witnessing a beautiful thing within this program. The Lighthouse living property has revealed itself more and more each day as a home and its participants as one big family.
The students here continue to press into the extra education they are offered on site. Morning devotionals as a whole offer a safe, comfortable community setting with Christian leaders to dig into God’s word, study, ask questions, receive answers, and practice application.
Outside of the house this month we have all enjoyed several games of football and an afternoon of swimming. When Friday family game nights roll around, quality time among each other is a healthy normal. Sunday evenings hold shared testimonies, worship, and a Biblical lesson to initiate more spiritual growth.
This past week, a Beauty For Ashes event was held in the house. This was a night focussed around the girls. Prepared to invite them to share their stories and walk in vulnerability within their community. It brought an opportunity for healing, redemption and growth in past or present situations.
One thing I have noticed most here is the staff’s genuine love and dedication towards each individual. Office doors stand open, intentional one-on-one evaluation time is prioritized, success for the students is pressed on their hearts. When I sit around the long table at lunch, I see more than smiling faces among the youth and adults. I see an example of the Lord’s love that is being instilled in the youth of a country for a better future. Lighthouse is living, learning and serving as one big family. – Tate Cook
