My Brief Story
That is a really good question: Who am I? As I sit here in front of the computer screen with some of my best friends around me, I have to pause for a moment to think about who I am. I can tell you a lot about other things, but when it comes down to me, I really cannot tell you about who I am without telling you about the Great I AM.
I grew up in a Christian home going to church all my life and attending a Christian school. I remember my parents telling me how I had prayed with my older sister one time to accept Jesus Christ as my Lord and Savior. But when I was around 9 years old at a summer camp, I realized that this was too important of a decision to leave up to the word of someone else. I was afraid of going to hell when I die, so I prayed at camp during an alter call to accept Jesus for sure as my Lord and Savior. But then about a year later I realized that being Christian should not be about not going to hell, but it should be about going to heaven, so I prayed once again for the right reason. Then another year later, I prayed again because I saw that it is not about not going to hell or about going to heaven, but it is about just being with God in a relationship wherever he is.
Through junior high and high school, this became more of a intellectual pursuit of God than walking with God through every aspect of my life. I was that kid that knew all the Bible answers, but the Gospel was not really affecting the heart of my life. I was really involved with a lot of Christian activities and had many deep conversations with friends, but I was still wanting to live my life the way I wanted to apart from the call and conviction I was feeling from God.
By sophomore year of college I got to a breaking point of my life where I could now say that “whatever was to my profit I now consider loss for the sake of Christ.” I do still see the great value of my solid Christian upbringing, but I see now how to be a Christian does not mean to claim a certain theology or worldview but rather it is about surrendering my whole life to God and living out of service to him through the spurring of his Spirit. So it was not really until sophomore year of college that I really committed my whole life to living for Christ.
Now, I am super passionate about living out of love for God and humble service to him, striving to love him continually with all that I am and loving those around me out of the love that God has given me. He has taught me so much about the power of his Spirit, his sovereignty, true worship and continual prayer, and so much more.
There is so much I would love to tell you about how God is working in and through my life. If you want more details or just want to fellowship together, feel free to ask me about it anytime.
