I saw a glimpse of Heaven this week.
It wasn’t white clouds with golden pillars. There weren’t angels and trumpets playing. It was much simpler than that, but just as beautiful.
I was standing in a church surrounded by believers from Iran, Afghanistan and Iraq. They were singing praise songs in Farsi, a language that I can’t even pretend to comprehend. As I stood shoulder to shoulder with them and sang along in English my heart was ready to explode. My mind was flooded with visions of what being in Heaven will be like.
Let me give a spoiler alert: Heaven isn’t going to look like your Sunday morning American church service.
We’re going to be praising our Savior side by side with people from ALL cultures, continents and ethnicities. That my friends should bring joy to the deepest depths of your soul.
So there I stood. In a church in Sofia, Bulgaria. Surrounded by individuals who most Americans would write off as ‘Terrorists’. Some of them have fled their countries because of religious persecution, others for just general fear of their lives. Many had grown up in another religion only to hear the true saving grace of Jesus Christ in the last couple years.
This is how Heaven will look. Christians from every background imaginable eternally praising our savior.
I get so excited for that day I go to heaven. The day I get to meet my savior face to face….BUT that time has not come yet. With the time I have left on earth I want to continue to spread the gospel, because each person that hears it could be a brother/sister standing next to me eternally.
I’ve had a glimpse of heaven. It’s encouraged me. Inspired me. Challenged me to continue to be bold this year and continue to further the Kingdom. Continue to meet new brothers and sisters that I’ll one day be shoulder to shoulder with again.
In a small way I hope that special Sunday afternoon brings you inspiration as much as it has for me.
