Our 9th month brought us to our first country in Southern Africa, where the entire Fusion Squad was able to serve all together again! We worked with Mobile Mission Maintenance to instruct courses to university students and adult learners!

Meet my final team for The World Race – Team Change – and follow us in our adventures and how we serve in Zambia!

~~~
Thank you again to everyone for your continued support throughout The World Race. What a blessing it has been to share this journey with each of you!
TWR 9.1: introduction to team change and to the world race culture
~ ~ ~
we’ve made it to the continent of africa for our last three months of our route!
and i’m thrilled to introduce you to my new [and final] team of the world race – TEAM CHANGE!
also my teammates [and special guest star, one of my alumni squad leaders!] want to give YOU some insight to the vocabulary and culture of the world race. enjoy! :0)
TWR 9.2: instructing a photography class in zambia
~ ~ ~
we made it to our first country in africa and were assigned to serve as an entire squad again! partnering with mobile mission maintenance and working in our individual teams, we had the opportunity to instruct a week-long course on photography to university students and adult learners!
TWR 9.3: zambia football game
~ ~ ~
our entire squad had the opportunity to attend an exciting football game at ndola’s levy mwanawasa stadium. zambia and kenya ended in a tied match.
TWR 9.4: zoo drive through zambia
~ ~ ~
during one of our adventure days, the mobile mission maintenance bus took us through a zoo drive to explore the plains and animals of zambia!
TWR 9.5: instructing a videography course in zambia
~ ~ ~
during our second week of ministry with zambia’s chapter of mobile mission maintenance, my team was in charge of instructing a course in videography and sound editing to adult learners and university students.
TWR 9.6: african village visit
~ ~ ~
mobile mission maintenance partners with the twatasha HiV/AiDS infected or affected cooperative, providing meals to children without families and empowering individuals in the community to learn seamstress skills to generate income. our entire squad had an opportunity to visit this satellite site of mmm and learn about the ways these organizations work together to support and love this village.
TWR 9.7: instructing a dance class in zambia
~ ~ ~
for our final week of courses which we instructed during our time serving with the zambia chapter of mobile mission maintenance, we were able to select the class we would help facilitate, rather than be assigned by our formal teams. since it has been another all-squad month, it was a great opportunity to collaborate with some of my squadmates with whom i had never been on a team!
i am NOT at all skilled in dance, but i love a good dance party. ;0) i certainly took on a role as a student, rather than a teacher in this class – and i was WORKED. i don’t think i have ever worked so hard to perfect a routine, nor have i ever been so sore! learning to step and dance a hip hop routine – though immensely difficult for an un-coordinated dancing fool, like me – was one of my favorite challenges during my time in zambia! (i can only hope that i made my dancer mom and my squadmate dance instructors proud!)
TWR 9.8: zambian game park drive
~ ~ ~
one of our adventure days brought us to nsobe game camp for a park drive to view native animals and landscapes to zambia.
TWR 9.9: victoria falls – squadmates slide to zimbabwe
~ ~ ~
following an all-squad leadership development weekend in livingstone, zambia, we all spent a day at victoria falls. some of my very brave squadmates soaked up adventure by sliding across the maramba river from zambia to zimbabwe. i experienced a panicked, rapid heartbeat just from watching!
TWR 9.10: victoria falls – squadmates bungee and swing
~ ~ ~
same bold, brave squadmates, different set of thrills.
111 metres above the water, they dove headfirst and swept across the horizon. as for me, i just screamed, prayed, and watched from the safety of solid ground. ;0)
TWR 9.11: victory falls national park
~ ~ ~
we had the opportunity to explore victoria falls national park. though it was during the dry season, the scenery and landscape was still breathtaking!
TWR 9.12: post-falls hang sesh
~ ~ ~
to close our exciting adventure day as a squad at victoria falls national park, we dined, conversed, and soaked up the luxuries of restaurant establishments inside of nearby hotels. we had a long travel leg ahead of us in the next few days, so it was extra inviting to relax together.
TWR 9.13: passing through botswana for travel day
~ ~ ~
our travel from zambia to south africa brought us through botswana by bus and van and ferry. we disinfected our shoes, navigated passport stamp struggles, vlogged within a vlog within a vlog, and had a movie marathon in a KFC!
TWR 9.14: arriving to south africa
~ ~ ~
we had a fairly long stretch of travel to get from zambia, through botswana, and into south africa as a squad. team change was headed for our placement in cape town, so we had the longest leg to go when we headed separate ways at the johannesburg bus station.
