It’s been four months on this adventure of squad leading. That’s crazy to think that I only have one month left on the mission field with O-squad! Time has really flown by.

These four months have been filled with a whole lot of laughter and love, some tears and frustration, challenges, hard feedback, and so many moments of witnessing the goodness of God. Through all the experiences I have had in my time with O-squad, I would say the best part of my job as a squad leader is that moment when individuals begin to realize who the Lord has called them to be. When they realize they have a choice in the matter of throwing off the things of the flesh and choosing the things of the Spirit.

One night, recently actually, one of my squad members, we’ll call her K, had an experience like this. We were in a situation where someone had come on to the property of the ministry site and shined a laser light through our window and the ministries 15 year old interns window. The team I was with was very unsettled, and K has had her apartment broken into multiple times and she became very fearful. But then something amazing happened! She realized she is not called to be a person of fear, but one of faith. She went on to rebuke the enemy and what he was trying to do to her, and proclaimed who her God is and who He has made her to be! I encouraged her to continue to do this until all the fear she was feeling was completely gone. In the midst of K’s declaration the spiritual atmosphere began to change and it made way for a spontaneous outburst of praise to our Lord, Jesus! We went on to worship Jesus for a couple hours after that!

Just a few weeks prior I had given a talk to the squad about choosing faith over fear and encouraged them to decide then who they were going to be; people of faith or people of fear? Because K refused to sit in fear and chose faith, and chose to trust in the Word of God and proclaim she has “NOT been given a spirit of fear,” BUT IS a child of God, and He is a good, good Dad who loves and protects His children; this decision had a ripple affect to those around her. It helped her team member choose faith too in the midst of chaos, confusion and spiritual warfare! Everything turned out to be okay that night, but I believe it would have been different if K would have remained in her fear. One act of faith completely changed a whole atmosphere! I was so proud of her!

There have been many moments like this while squad leading; when I have seen the light bulb go off and they have begun to walk in a deeper knowledge of who they are in Christ. It’s the most beautiful thing. It is the best part! It makes everything I do worth it!

To O-Squad: Thank you for allowing me into your lives and allowing me to love you and speak truth into you. These four months have truly been the best season of my life so far. I have been so blessed by you, and thank you for loving me. I love you with all my heart.
