I write this as I am hyped up from a late cup of coffee from our last rest stop. It’s 10:45 PM.
We are on our way to Cape Town from Johannesburg. Sitting in my seat, I look up at the amazing night sky above me. Beautiful bright stars splashed all across.
I am in total awe as I see the Milky Way and other breath taking constellations. I call over many of my friends to my window, like a giddy child, so they can take in the flawless beauty.
As I gaze up, I am reminded of Psalms 19:1-4
“The heavens declare the glory of God,
and the sky above proclaims his handiwork.
Day to day pours out speech,
and night to night reveals knowledge.
There is no speech, nor are there words,
whose voice is not heard.
Their voice goes out through all the earth,
and their words to the end of the world.”
Then I begin to ponder what those who do not know the Lord think when they look out at the night sky. What questions do they ask themselves? Do they ask, “Is there Someone out there?” or “Is this really all there is?”
To those who ask these types of questions; to those who question there purpose here on earth; I say to you there is MORE! There is a God above who loves you so incredibly much that he sent His only Son, Jesus, to earth.
You see… we (humanity) were separated from God when sin entered the world through Adam and Eve. Before the first sin, we were one with God, our creator. But afterwards, we had to be separated from God because He cannot be in the presence of sin. God is perfect. But God, loving His children (that’s you and me) so much, made a way back to Him! Jesus!
Jesus, God in human flesh. The rightful heir to all creation gave up His divine position and humbled himself by being born of a virgin in a manger; the most humble of births. He went through life just like all of us; faced the same temptation and trials we go through, but came out innocent. But you see there is a price for sin.
“For the wages of sin is death, but the free gift of God is eternal life in Christ Jesus our Lord.” Romans 6:23
In the old testament, they would sacrifice animals to atone for their sins. Blood is the price for sin.
Jesus, being hated by pretty much all of the Jewish religious leaders of the time, was murdered by them. Jesus suffered a criminal’s death by being hung on the cross. He became the ransom for humanity to be justified back to The Father.
Going through the most gruesome of deaths a new word was created to describe the type of pain that it produced- excruciating. (Look up full definition). Jesus died on the cross, and was buried in a tomb.
But what separates Christianity from all other religions is that the story does not end there. Jesus rose from the dead! He is alive!! He conquered death and sin! By Jesus rising from the dead, He brought us back to the Creator, our Heavenly Father, our Dad! Jesus saved us from the penalty of our sin. He bore our sin, when it wasn’t His to bear.
“For our sake he made him to be sin who knew no sin, so that in him we might become the righteousness of God.” 2 Corinthians 5:21
We are all sinners in need of a Savior. Praise be to God for providing the way through His Son, Jesus Christ. The decision to put your hope and trust in Jesus Christ is the single most important decision you will ever make. It is of eternal consequence. Let me tell you though…repenting of my sins and truly giving my life to Jesus has been the best thing I have ever done. He has changed me and has taken me places I never dreamed I would go.
Friends, I pray you put your whole trust in Jesus. Give your life to him and don’t turn back. You will not regret it.
“…if you confess with your mouth, ‘Jesus is Lord,’ and believe in your heart that God raised him from the dead, you will be saved. For it is with your mouth that you confess and are saved. As the Scripture says, ‘Anyone who trust in him will never be put to shame.’” Romans 10:9-10
