Statistics tell me that I’ve got seventy to eighty years on this earth.
So here’s to making it count for eternity…
Over the past few years, the Lord has been working on my heart to trade in the false values rooted in the American Dream and begin to pursue a dream that advances His Kingdom. I’m constantly bombarded with the pressure to pursue success, live comfortably and well, stay safe and secure. But soon I will stand before my Creator and give an account for what I have done with the time and resources He has given me. And I’m confident that when I do, I will not wish that I had spent another minute pursuing a successful career, making money, living comfortably, and living for my own selfish gain. I will only regret not having given more of myself to carry the name of Jesus and point others to the awesome God we serve.
Along with this realization, I’ve come to recognize the effectiveness of humanitarian missions. We know the Way, the Truth, and the Life – the greatest story ever told. We know the way to a meaningful relationship with our Creator. But people don’t care how much you know until they know how much you care. And that’s where my future endeavor comes in. God’s solution for a hungry and hurting world is a compassionate church. So what if wesaid, “Alright, that’s enough! It’s time for the church to respond!” Enough caring only for ourselves and serving the Lord where it’s comfortable, easy, and safe. It’s time to start reaching those who have so little and may have never even heard the Gospel of Christ. And isn’t compassion our finest apologetic? You can’t argue with compassion!
Recently, the Lord has broken my heart for a few regions of the world that desperately need our compassion: Latin America, Sub-Saharan Africa, and Southeast Asia. The communities of Latin America are desperate for clean water. The people of Sub-Saharan Africa are plagued by disease, and many helpless children become orphans as a result. The young women of Southeast Asia are trapped in prostitution and slavery. The message of Christ has been flourishing in these regions over the years because their people are crying out for a Savior, someone who will give them a reason to live. So, this is where I’m headed. I’m off to feed the poor, heal the sick, and free the slave – in Jesus’ name.
This is no missions trip, it’s simply the beginning of a long-term commitment. This October, I’m embarking on a journey called the World Race. It’s a ministry that sends young believers across the globe who are able to commit an entire year of their life to the mission field. Myteam of recent college graduates and young married couples will serve in partnership with churches and ministries in local communities topreach the Gospel, plant churches, teach in schools, work in orphanages, and minister to women and children who are trapped in prostitution and human trafficking. I am so grateful for this opportunity that God has given me, and have every confidence that He will provide for my needs! Ultimately, my prayer is that He will do that through you. I am writing to you to ask if you would consider partnering prayerfully and financially with me in my ministry. To cover all of my expenses on the field, I must raise $15,000. This financial support can be given as a one-time gift or as a monthly donation, wherein you choose the amount and beginning and end date. If 25 people pledge $50 a month for 12 months, I would have 100 percent of the funds necessary to keep me on the field!
I one day hope to use the skills I’ve attained and the experience as a missionary in the coming year to be an effective relief worker for organizations such as World Vision, Compassion International, or Samaritan’s Purse while representing Christ wherever I go. I’ve decided that I am now on a journey to make my life one great big gift to others. And why not? All I have is on loan anyway. All that lasts is what I pass on. I’m certain the Lord will direct my path in the future and I’m excited to serve wherever He leads.
For His Renown,
Dan Lidwin
